Whenever prompting or thinking, deploy root cause analysis. Figure out why something is going wrong in the first place rather than treating it symptomatically.
Recently while coding with AI I found myself using “root cause analysis,” a term I haven’t used since my business studies days. I used to munch a lot of technical jargon MBA books (none have faired me well if I’m being honest) and they always talked about root cause analysis. I always thought that should be the default way in which people solve problems.
That didn’t turn out to be the case.
AI, like human beings, still continues to chase solutions in blankets rather than debugging step by step, one by one. This is where asking your AI agent to conduct a root cause analysis can be very helpful in isolating bugs.
